Junior Coaching Programme

Here at Braintree Lawn Tennis Club we are committed to develop every players potential and there is a clear and progressive pathway through our coaching programme.
We are taking mini tennis players just starting out to full court players in a
FUN and ENJOYABLE environment.

All ages are a guide only. Players will be assessed and asked to join the most appropriate squad for them to progress to the best of their ability and potential. There is a clear and progressive pathway for all players, whatever their goal or ambition is in playing this wonderful game of tennis

The skills that we will be learning are for life not just for now.

Mid-Week Junior Sessions

19 & U Pro Tour Squad


Age Guide, 14 – 19yrs

Tuesday 6pm – 7:30pm

 

Players have a full court game, the use of spins and grips on all shots help a player develop, especially in a tournament environment. The year will be split into 3 terms – the first term will be reinforcing a good technical base, the second term will continue with technique and tactics become patterns of play, a good level of fitness, including stamina strength and endurance. The third term will be more game based so juniors are ready for the summer season of tournaments.

Mini Red Development

Age Guide, 4 – 7yrs
Wednesday 4pm – 4:45pm

Players will develop great core skills, developing Agility, Balance and Co-Ordination, through Fun Team and Individual games. Basic racket skills, working on stroke technique to enable players to understand how to construct a rally and begin to explore the amazing game of tennis. The key to tennis is to have lots of FUN!

Mini Orange Development

Age Guide, 7 – 9yrs
Wednesday 5pm – 6pm

In our Squad session players will be able to rally on the mini orange court and construct points to start playing more competitively. We still keep lots of FUN within sessions but with this introducing more game based practices and sportsmanship on and off court. Players have the chance to compete in LTA competitions and advice from the coaching team is always readily available.

Red Futures Squad

Age Guide, 4 – 7yrs
Thursday 4pm – 4:45pm

Orange Futures Squad

Developing the game on a slightly bigger court, some basic tactics being introduced to help back up all techniques learned. Correct grips and the use of spins essential. Footwork and movement patterns explored to allow players better on court movement to the ball and to be able to keep a great court position.

Green Futures Squad

Age Guide, 9 – 12yrs
Thursday 5:45pm – 6:45pm

Players now start using full size tennis courts but are using a green mini ball that has 75% the pressure of a normal yellow ball. This keeps the player able to develop the skills further without loss of control over the ball. All techniques and tactics used earlier in our programme are reinforced more now we have moved onto the full courts. Players start to be able to use their strength more and are keenly looking to where they can begin to look at what type of player they will become. Using their personal on court strengths and playing to their opponents weaknesses, the game changes point to point. Fun and exciting.

18 & U Tour Squad


Age Guide, 10 – 18yrs

Thursday 6:45pm – 8:15pm

The reinforcement of stroke technique to aid a tactical base in the 5 areas of play. Construction of points in Singles and Doubles to play to individual and team strengths. Fitness and movement skills pushed to enable each player to react faster and dictate play on court. Speciality shots becoming used more often and patterns of play need to be explored further to allow players to tactically play in every situation.

Saturday Junior Sessions

U.S Open Squad


Age Guide, 4 – 7yrs
Saturday 8:30am – 9.15am

 

Players developing good hand eye co-ordination, basic racket skills and stroke techniques on mini tennis courts with lots of FUN. We need these skills to develop our rallies on a min court and playing fun games that allow us to learn to play as an individual and as a team while understanding sportsmanship , rules and teamwork.

Australian Open Squad


Age Guide, 7 – 9yrs

Saturday 9:30am – 10:30am

French Open Squad (Roland Garros)

Age Guide, 9 – 12yrs
Saturday 10:45am – 11:45am

 

 Played on a full size court. Understanding the game of tennis as a tactical gam, using techniques learned to win more points than opponents, playing to your strengths and your opponent’s weaknesses. Find ways of playing different styles of opponents and your ability to overcome obstacles. We explore the 5 areas of play and how to construct points in Singles and Doubles.

Junior Wimbledon Squad

Age Guide, 10 – 15yrs
Saturday 12noon – 1pm

 

Players are beginning to develop a full court game, the use of spins and grips encourage enabling a player to develop a range of tactics in all areas of the court. Patterns of play and court positioning essential for players to play a solid game and be able to use tactical mind when facing different opponents. Singles and Doubles played to aid players to build a team spirit and able to work together in individual and team events.

Wimbledon Squad

Age Guide, 12 – 16yrs
Saturday 1:15pm – 2:45pm
